James Whitworth

James Whitworth (born 1970) is a cartoonist and journalist. 1

Born in Sheffield, United Kingdom in 1970, Whitworth was educated at Tapton School and Sheffield Hallam University, where he graduated with a degree in English language and literature. During his time at university he won the Percy Snow Memorial Prize for Best Short Story, and contributed to the University's magazine.

In 2001, Whitworth completed an M.A. in English literature.

Whitworth's writing career dates back to the late 1990s, when he published a number of academic-related articles. He then made the move into freelance journalism, writing extensively for the Sheffield Telegraph.

During 2007-2008, Whitworth wrote the crime novel Death's Disciple, and won an award from the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook for his blog, which followed the book's process.

In 2007, Whitworth compiled a book of his father's (Ralph Whitworth's) cartoons.

Since 2009, Whitworth has worked full-time as a writer, journalist and cartoonist. He has worked for a wide range of publications, including an increasing number of online outlets. He has contributed cartoons to the corporate sector, and is the topical cartoonist for the online magazine Creative Boom. He was also contributed topical cartoons to Ha! magazine.

Whitworth is currently writing a second novel set during Sheffield's Off the Shelf Literary Festival. It is due to be completed by summer 2010.

James has also recently launched a new 'Daily Fix' section of Creative Boom magazine, a daily topical cartoon, focusing on current affairs and is the editor of Creative Boom Sheffield.
