James Siu Lung Lee

James Siu Lung, Lee (李小龍博士) (8 January 1970–) is a Hong Kong businessman.

Early life

Lee was born in Hong Kong on 8 January 1970.

Personal life

Lee is married to Stephanie Chan in 2004. Lee's daughter, Stephy, was born in Hong Kong in 2006, and Lee's son, Jeffrey, was born in Hong Kong in 2008. He is a Christian.

Education

Lee went to school in Macau. He later went to the Methodist College in Belfast, Northern Ireland and obtained a bachelor's degree from Queen's University Belfast. He gained a Ph.D. (Operational Management) from the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, at the University of Hong Kong.

Research Awards

Lee has awarded the Short Brothers Prize by the Institution of Electrical Engineers in 1992, the McCormick Prize from the Northern Ireland Technology Centre in 1992, and the Highly Commended Award from the United Kingdom Journal of Integrated Manufacturing Systems, in 2001.

During his Ph.D. research work in operations management, Lee published over 10 research papers in a number of research journals in Europe and US, including the European Journal of Operational Research. Lee set up the first fully automated assembly line (for assembly of blood filter exchanger) for the Northern Ireland Technology Centre using IBM robot, Adapt robot and ASEA robot. In addition, Lee designed and implemented the first fully Flexible Manufacturing Systems for The Dept. of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems at the University of Hong Kong.

Career

On the business side, Lee has worked for a number of multi-national companies, for instance as Chairman, CEO, and director. He has been serving Lippo Group (力寶集團) for over ten years.

Lee has been the group CEO and board director of Systech Telecom since 2001. Under Lee’s direct supervision and management, the company has become the second largest Internet operator for the hotel industry in Asia (and the largest in Hong Kong and Macau in terms of number of hotel rooms under the company’s management), with business operations covering Hong Kong, Macau, Egypt, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

Lee has established a number of joint ventures such as Systech Century Group, Systech On-Line, etc. with partners from different fields, and acting as board Chairman and director of the joint ventures. In addition, Lee has als held the position of board director of Cybertech Capital and Polar Shine Capital since year 2001. Both Cybertech Capital and Polar Shine Capital are investment holdings, mainly investing in technology companies.

In 2007, Lee has awarded the Top 10 Hong Kong e-businessmen (award presented by alibaba.com and supported by Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, The University of Hong Kong and Tradelink Electric Commerce Ltd – a listing company with substantial shareholders including HK Gov. - The Financial Secretary Incorporated and HSBC)

Social Responsibility

Lee is actively involving in youth development. He gives talks and seminars to university students (invited by dept. and also faculty of engineering of The University of Hong Kong) for the past few years. He had also sponsored the YMCA youth hockey league in Hong Kong every year since 2005 (under 10 years age hockey team and under 12 years age hockey team). The aim is to offer school children a healthy environment to grow up by means of sports and team building.

Lee is the honorary advisor of PMF (PMA Music Foundation) http://www.pmf.org.hk, which is a registered charity organization in Hong Kong.

Lee is the authorized representative to represent Systech Telecom to vote for the committee member (IT Sector) who have the right to elect the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Government, and also the authorized representative to vote for the Hong Kong legislative council member (IT Sector).
