Coach Rick (James Ricky Coward born April 29, 1966) is a former American amateur boxer and current professional boxing trainer. Coach Rick has worked with numerous professional boxers as well as professional mma fighters. Most notably Bob Sapp, Raymond Serrano, Bernard Hopkins, Ty Brunson and Max Alexander . On Season 12 episode 31 of MTV's MADE Coach Rick was the MADE Coach and helped Derek Frazier, youngest son of Smokin' Joe Frazier become a boxer.

Life and Career

Coach Rick was born in Camden, New Jersey and moved to Pennsauken Township, New Jersey by the age of 14 with his parents. He began boxing at the age of 16 with his uncle Tyrone Walden. His amateur boxing accomplishments included winning the 1984 South Jersey Golden Gloves tournament as a Welterweight and 24 years later becoming New Jersey State Heavyweight Champion in the Masters Division. He began training amateurs part-time voluntarily but did not pursue a professional career in boxing as he married young at the age of 19 and raised 3 boys.

In 1988, Coach Rick began his career in Security / Executive Protection and Law enforcement for Camden and Gloucester County, New Jersey. After 2 years in the Private Sector, Coach Rick worked 8 years as a uniform police officer and then went on to become an Investigator for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. His duty assignments included a number of high profile units and federal agencies, including Task Force Officer for the United States Marshal Service, Undercover Investigator for the H.I.D.T.A. Narcotics Unit and Gang Suppression Unit, and 9 year Tactical Team Operator / Sniper for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office High Risk Entry Team. Deemed an Expert Witness by the State of New Jersey in the field of Narcotic's Distribution Operations as well as Tactical Operations, Coach Rick wrote and designed the Tactical High Risk Entry & Officer Rescue Model Program for the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice State Wide Narcotics Task Force. His training and practical experience which spanned close to two decades include: FBI Sniper School, US Homeland Security Anti & Counter [...] Training, US Secret Service Dignitary Protection, US Marshal Service Fugitive Investigations, Top Secret Security Clearance issued by United States Department Of Justice, Sworn Special Deputy US Marshal, as well as specialized tactical training with the NYPD Emergency Services Unit, US Army Urban Tactical Training, US Customs Maritime Tactical Operations, Toronto Police Department & Canadian Royal Mounted Police Covert Surveillance operations along with numerous other specialized training courses and covert operations.

In 2008, after retiring from a decorated Law enforcement career, Coach Rick participated and won the 2008 Guns 'n' Hoses New Jersey State amateur boxing tournament. He then went on to become a full-time boxing trainer. He trained many top level national amateur boxers and has continued his success with professional boxers.
