James Grissom

James Grissom (born October 31, 1961) is an American writer.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Grissom attended Louisiana State University and the University of Pennsylvania, after which he worked in the advertising field at such agencies as Weill & East in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and J. Walter Thompson in New York City.

In 1982 a letter he wrote to the playwright Tennessee Williams was answered and Grissom traveled to New Orleans to visit with the writer. The result--after five days of walking AbOUT the city--is the book Follies of God, which is to be published by Alfred A. Knopf in March of 2015. The book details those people who were the greatest influences on Williams and they include Maureen Stapleton, Geraldine Page, Jessica Tandy, Irene Worth, Edward Albee, John Guare, Kim Stanley, Frances Sternhagen, Marian Seldes, Julie Harris, Kim Hunter, Jo Van Fleet, Mildred Natwick, William Inge, and Luchino Visconti.

Grissom begain interviewing the living subjects after he moved to New York in 1989. During those years Grissom worked in a variety of jobs--including editing copy for Penthouse magazine; serving as an assistant to theatrical producer Daryl Roth; writing for several television programs; and managing the New York bakeries Ecce Panis and Amy's Bread.
