Jahar Dasgupta
Jahar Dasgupta (born May 31, 1942) is a contemporary painter and social activist from India. He was born in Jamshedpur, British India.
Career
In 1969, seven ex-students of Santiniketan including Jahar and Baroda Art College students came together to form a group named Painters' Orchestra, now one of the oldest artist groups in India. Since that time, Dasgupta has been a regular participant in the group shows of this organisation, and also had a few solos as well. His first solo exhibition was organised in Birla Art and Culture Kolkata, West Bengal. He developed his own style of expression since the early 1970s after passing through a period of apprenticeship during the 1960s. In this sense he May Be categorised as an artist of the 1970s.
He had a few solo and group exhibitions in India and abroad. He was invited to NABC in 2010, hosted by Kallol, a non-profit socio-cultural organization of Bengalis, New Jersey.
Dasgupta developed his own style in his paintings and drawings. Previously, he painted in oil, but now mainly works in ink, pastel, and acrylics.
