Ivory John Webb

Ivory John Webb is the name of the deputy who was tried for, Attempted Voluntary [...] after shooting an unarmed passenger (Elio Carrion) of a car driven by Luis Fernando Escobedo.

Luis Fernando Escobedo allegedly lead police on a high speed chase in a Corvette with speeds exceeding 100 MPH which ended when he crashed into a fence. The San Bernardino County SHERIFF's department confiscated video footage shot by a local resident and have been tight lipped with the details of the incident, but the footage shows passenger Elio Carrion on the ground apparently cooperating with police saying "I'm in the military," and "I'm on your side," before officer Webb shouts "Stand up!" several times and shoots Elio Carrion as he begins to comply by standing up.

Despite a video footage of the shooting, the incident received surprisingly little attention in the media. Some speculate that the reason for the lack of coverage in the media is because of Officer Webb's African American heritage, where similar incidences involving white police officers have generated public outcry and even riots.

He was acquitted, of all charges, by a San Bernardino County Jury, on Thursday, June 28, 2007.
