Is This My Ride? Seeking Divine Guidance in Our Lives.

Is This My Ride? — Seeking Divine Guidance in Our Lives (2005) is a short book by Gregory D. Preston published in 2005. Preston describes his book as being a way to listen peacefully to God and change one’s life in the process. It is also a treatise on the nature of the perception of God and spiritual growth.

Regarding the book's size; Preston states:

"This book is meant to be small and to the point. It is not the Bible. I'm not wasting my reader's time with drawn out concepts. Readers are smart and don’t need all that."

This work is filled with quotes from famous individuals. In between each chapter is a humorous story lightening the subject-matter. The book contains scriptural quotes from multiple holy writings. Preston uses these to show that mankind has been thinking and writing about divine guidance for thousands of years. He also placed these items into the book because he intended to give his readers: "A book you can pick up and get some small help out of whenever you have the need."

The last chapter is something of an attack on the modern American lifestyle and why each person needs a relationship with God. Preston argues that the current promise the U.S. Governmental system offers the United States citizen is a false promise which leads ultimately to a loss of personal freedom.

However, this book is only in small part a critique, Preston spends the greater part of it putting forward and explaining what he considers to be the great truths of seeking divine guidance in our lives:

  • One must believe in divine guidance.
  • One must believe God will guide you.
  • What God wants from each individual.
  • Why each individual needs to seek God’s guidance.

Preston approaches the first of the concepts from two differing points of view; a scientific and mathematical view and by contrast, what he terms "a more NATURAL view".
