International Adoption Dossier
An International Adoption Dossier is the collection of all paperwork submitted in order to request an international adoption.
Although regulations vary widely from one country to another, Below are examples of typical documents required
- Proof of employment/income - This may include the previous year's Tax return, an employment verification letter from the adoptive parents' employers, pay stubs or financial records for the self employed.
- Home Study - This is a lengthy document prepared by a social worker who meets with the family and inspects the dwelling to verify that the family would make suitable adoptive parents
- Medical Examination - This will be a record of an in depth physical, GeneRally in a specific format mandated by the child's birth country.
- Birth Certificates for all family members
- Marriage Certificates
- A document indicating Permission from the adoptive parents' country for the adoption to take place. Typically in the US, this would be either Form I-171H, Notice of Favorable Determination Concerning Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition or the alternative form I-797C
Generally all items will need to be notarized by a local notary public and then that notary's signature must be authenticated at either a state/province level or at the country level before submitting. This process will vary depending on the Adoptive Parent's country.
