Intermont Search and Rescue
The Intermont Search and Rescue Team, established in 2003 by a founding member of the Black Diamond Search and Rescue Council, and is based in Damascus, VA, which is the hub of 5 national trails, including The Appalachian Trail and the Virginia Creeper Trail. They have members in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee and those members have various levels of training such as Field Team Member, Field Team Leader, Signcutter, Rescue Diver, Cave Rescue, Vertical Rescue, Wilderness Rescue and Kayaking.
Intermont Search and Rescue Team has members trained to search for plane crashes, lost children, hikers, hunters and anyone else in need of there assistance. The team consists of members trained in Mountain, Cave, Wilderness, Urban, Vertical Rescue, as well as Scuba divers. They are first responders for any natural or man-made disaster.
The team comes from a wide variety of backgrounds including engineers, machinists, students, teachers, doctors, nurses, paramedics, office workers and business owners. They are diverse group willing and able to go anywhere anytime they are needed.
