Intelligentsia are a British / Japanese electronic music group based in London & Tokyo. Formed in 1989 in the UK, by 2 ex-games programmers, Mirai & Rik Rob from Interceptor Micros / Players Software, they set up the one of the first Futurist networks, in relation to their self-titled band. The groups title is based on the Russian original meaning; "of artists on the vanguard, engaged in complex mental and creative labour, whose main task is to create and distribute knowledge..." but later went by the tagline of: "a global futurist network for the 21st century".

Intelligentsia were based in Tokyo from 1995, where they worked & toured with Susumu Hirasawa (P-Model), Morley Robertson (J-WAVE national radio) & Kenso Kato (PC Donburi TV).

The group is noted for bringing together over 10 years a global group of pioneering artists in music and digital arts, with music projects such as WORLD WIDE KIND (over 30 artists from 15 countries), with weekly national airplay on J-Wave radio's show 'Nomad City'. And featuring new and progressive music technologies; Using the Exo-Skeleton from Gypsy-Midi (a body-controller sensor suit, also used by NASA), and inventing the BODY-DRUM as used in the award winning Interactive live Show tour with Susumu Hirasawa In 2007 they won a Broad Star award for a Japanese CGI animation video with American synth-pop artist Astromill.

Intelligentsia have done over 50 live shows in Europe and Japan, and have been featured in the national press (Wired, Keyboard magazine) In 2007 they gave a performance for the Future of Music conference, Denmark featuring the Gypsy-Midi music controller.

Intelligentsia have done various soundtracks for Japanese video games from ASCII Corporation / DIGITAL Famitsu / Enterbrain. And various digital content for Yamaha Music, Arkaos VJ Belgium, T-Mobile & Arvato Mobile, Germany.

They were also voted the top Tomb Raider level mod designer in 2001. This Mod features on the German DVD version of the Tomb Raider movie release.

Intelligentsia recently added new band members, Christopher J Wray (kbds) & Dr. Cyber-Geisha (vocals.) Additionally, there is talk of putting together a concert in London which will bring Intelligentsia together with French musician, Francis Rimbert.
