Intelligence and Security Sector

The Intelligence and Security Sector aims to plan, organize and carry out tasks in the field of intelligence and security.

Purpose

The Intelligence and Security Sector, Republic of Serbia (RS) is to incorporate tasks and duties within basic information and security function through:

  • directing subordinated agencies, and Defence Attaché Offices,
  • coordinating, and achieving cooperation with state agencies and organizations related to the issues within the competence of the Intelligence and Security Sector field of business,
  • defining intelligence and security policy of the Ministry of Defence, and Serbian Armed Forces (SAF),
  • completing information for the needs of the competent state agencies of Republic of Serbia (RS).

The Intelligence and Security Sector is managed by the Head of The Intelligence and Security Sector who is also Assistant Minister for Intelligence and Security Affairs.

Military Intelligence Agency

The Military Intelligence Agency is an organizational unit of the Intelligence and Security Sector, and an expert organ of the Ministry of Defence competent and responsible for military security field of business. The Military Intelligence Agency collects, analyses, and evaluates data and information of military, military and political, military and economic, of scientific and technological nature of potential and real threats, activities and plans or intentions of foreign countries, and their armed forces, international and foreign organizations, groups and individuals aimed against the Ministry of Defence, Serbian Armed Forces (SAF), its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the defence system of Republic of Serbia (RS).

Intelligence function is the basic function of the Military Intelligence Agency. Intelligence and operative function are the Military Intelligence Agency’s functions. Military Intelligence Agency’s tasks are prescribed by the Security Services Act of the Republic of Serbia of December 11, 2007. Organizational structure of the Military Intelligence Agency is defined by the Rule Book on Internal Organization and Classification of the Intelligence and Security Sector.

Military Security Agency

The Military Security Agency is an organizational unit of the Intelligence and Security Sector, and an expert organ of the Ministry of Defence competent and responsible for military security.

The competences of the Military Intelligence Agency :

  • to detect, monitor, and prevent intelligence and other activities of foreign intelligence services, organizations, and persons aimed against the Ministry of Defence, and Serbian Armed Forces,
  • to detect, monitor, prevent, and stop internal and international [...], and subversive activities aimed against the Ministry of Defense, and Serbian Armed Forces (SAF),
  • to detect, investigate, and document criminal offences against constitutional order and security of Republic of Serbia (RS), against humanity and international law, as well as the most serious criminal acts with elements of an organized crimine

Security function is the basic function of the Military Security Agency. Counterintelligence function and general security are the Military Security Agency’s functions. The Military Security Agency’s tasks are prescribed by the Security Services Act of the Republic of Serbia of December 11, 2007. Defense Attaché Offices:

Defense Attaché Offices are organizational units of the Intelligence Security Sector, and main authorized organ of the Ministry of Defense for contacts with the Ministries of Defense to accredited countries. Defense Attaché Offices

  • represent the Ministry of Defense of Republic of Serbia (RS) in reception countries,
  • protects interests of the Ministry of Defense
