Integrated register surveillance
Integrated Register Surveillance is method of Loss prevention that is used by many retailers to stop employee theft. It is normally implemented by tying together transactions as they occur on a cash register with video recorders being used to monitor the register. In most cases, the items and actions that occur on the register get recorded as text displayed on top of recorded video. This is primarily achieved through Point of sale software.
The integration of these two systems allows an owner or operator to review each transaction on video and see what has been rung up on the register. This can easily be used to crack down on employee theft. For instance, an employee may only charge for one pack of cigarettes but pass through a dozen. With video only, it is very difficult to tell if the correct amount has been charged, but with the transaction data being reviewed at the same time as the video it is a very simple task to verify that the correct items have been rung up.
Integrated Register Surveillance can also be applied to confirm that age requirements are being enforced. A database of transactions can be searched through in order to find purchases involving alcohol or other age restricted items. The video of these transactions can be viewed, making it easy to tell if the customers' IDs have been checked if their age is questionable.
