Inspection drill
Inspection Drill is one phase of a standard Drill Meet in which JROTC and ROTC units compete. Usually, schools with separate JROTC or ROTC units will compete against each other for trophies or other rewards. During Inspection Drill the drill team will usually march onto the "Drill Pad" or the area in which they will perform, in a "Block" or a standard drill formation. Members of the block will usually be ordered to present arms while the commander of the team reports in for individual drill by saying, "Sir/Ma'am, (school name/unit name) reporting in for Inspection Drill Sir/Ma'am!" After this the commander of the team and a judge (usually an ACTIVE duty military member) will go through each line of the block and ask each Cadet questions AbOUT the chain of command in their unit, the United States, and questions about their rifles (if armed drill team). When the judge steps in front of each Cadet they will go to attention (if not at attention already) and report their rank and name ("Sir/Ma'am, Cadet Second Lieutenant Smith Sir/Ma'am.") After all Cadets are asked their questions the Commander will report out by saying, "Sir/Ma'am, (school name/unit name) reporting out from Inspection Drill Sir/Ma'am!" When this is done the block will march out the same way they came in and will be judged accordingly.
