Innocent Manda

Innocent Manda (born 22 December 2000) is a Tanzanian software engineer, 3D artist, and entrepreneur from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is the founder and CEO of WebYetu, a digital platform aimed at helping African businesses establish their online presence easily and affordably. Manda is credited with combining software engineering skills and digital art to create technology tools that meet the needs of the East African market.

Early life

Innocent Manda was born on 22 December 2000 in the Kilimanjaro Region and grew up in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. From childhood, he showed a keen interest in technology and creativity. He taught himself programming and 3D art through online resources, learning programming languages such as PHP and JavaScript alongside digital creative tools.

Rather than waiting for formal education, Manda began hands-on practice at a young age, building small software projects and digital art. His self-taught path has made him a role model for many young Tanzanians who wish to enter the technology industry.

Career

Manda formally began his professional career in 2019, combining software engineering and 3D art in various business projects. During this period, he provided digital creative services to companies in Tanzania, building his name in the industry.

His work encompasses two key areas: the creation of the WebYetu digital platform, and the production of business advertisements using 3D art. He also works as a technology consultant for small and medium-sized businesses seeking to establish themselves in the digital environment.

WebYetu

The idea for WebYetu began with a problem Manda saw clearly: small business owners in Tanzania could not afford an online presence. The cost of building a website in Tanzania is often equal to or exceeds the entire capital of a small business, a situation that keeps many entirely outside the digital economy.

"We wanted even those who could not reach the internet to be able to reach it," Manda said, explaining his motivation for founding WebYetu.

Manda began the first phase of building the platform in February 2025, working alone. After a slow start, he set the work aside for a while. In 2026, between April and May, he returned — this time working at a faster pace using artificial intelligence tools such as Cursor and Claude. As both a solo developer and a UI designer, Manda combined his skills to build a platform designed to look good and work fast.

A key milestone was enabling users to connect their own custom domain to their website — a feature he viewed as the foundation of the product's real value. After reaching that milestone, WebYetu entered the stage of acquiring its first customers and generating its first revenue.

Unlike international platforms such as Wix or Shopify, WebYetu was built for the specific needs of the Tanzanian market, including integration of mobile money payments such as M-Pesa and Tigo Pesa — payment methods more widely used than bank cards in the region.

3D art

Beyond software engineering, Manda is a 3D artist and digital animator. He uses specialized digital software to create images and videos for business advertisements.

His 3D work has helped Tanzanian companies present their products and services in a more appealing way, and he is counted among the emerging young artists in Tanzania's digital creative industry.

His participation in the Tanzanite International Animation Festival 2025 confirmed the quality of his work, where he won first prize in the animated commercials category.
