Indian Quizzing League

The INDIAN Quizzing League, Chennai (or IQL) is a quizzing group aimed at spreading the concept of knowledge sharing in the country and also act as a forum for quiz enthusiasts to meet and hone their skills and quiz regularly.

The Indian Quizzing League, or IQL, is a quizzing league based in Chennai. India. A group of four quizzing enthusiasts - Karthik Narayan, Ananthakrishnan Ganapathy, Ananthashankar and Vijay Govindarajan from Chennai, members of the Quiz Foundation of India, took the first step in creating a new quizzing group in late 2007. The idea was to form a quiz group to change the face of quizzing beyond the normal winners. The idea became reality when the group met for its first public quiz meet on January 12, 2008.

So far the group has grown to around 10 regular members who meet every Saturday at 16.00 P.M. for a quiz conducted by one or two of its members at the Cafe Coffee Day outlet in Indra Nagar, Adyar.

Events

Members of the IQL organize and conduct quizzes for a number of schools, colleges and companies based in and around the city.

The events conducted include school cultural quizzes for the DAV group of schools and Vidya Mandir School in Mylapore, Chennai; The IQL has also hosted a quiz for the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta Alumni.

Further to this, the group hosted the first ever India Quiz on January 26, 2009. The first of its kind, this quiz was open to all and was attended by 60 teams.

IQL Champions League

The Champions League is a quiz that is held each month and is open to everyone. The quiz will be based on the Lone-Wolf format, which means all participants will play individually (as opposed to a team). There would be a written round of 40-50 questions with in-built tie breakers. The participant who gets maximum points will be proclaimed as the Champion and would host the next session. At the end of six months, the person who has won the maximum number of times will be declared as the Champion of Champions and the next season will begin with scores at zero.

There is no entry fee for the whole event - announcements and details will be put up on the IQL blog http://iquiz.wordpress.com a week before the quiz. The first EDition of Season 2 ended on 13th April 2009 with Sreeram winning the quiz. He would be hosting the next session in May 2009.

The quiz is usually conducted at the Cafe Coffee Day outlet in Indra Nagar, Adyar and is limited to the first 25 seats because of space constraints.

Ver 1 - May 2009 - won by Sreeram Iyer

Ver 2 - June 2009 - won by V.V.Ramanan

Ramanan would be hosting the next edition of the Champions League in end June 2009.

IQL goes on the concept of knowledge sharing, whereby in each meeting, aspects other than quizzing are presented and shared with each other.

IQL was featured in the Deccan Chronicle, Sunday edition as part of the column by Senjam Rajshekar and also in the Times of India, Chennai edition in the Tribal Instincts column. Further, there was an article about the India quiz by Ergo, part of the Hindu newspaper.

IQL Summer Workshop in Quizzing

Indian Quizzing League organised a summer camp in quizzing in May 2009. This summer camp was for children of age groups 10-15 and was held at Raja Annamalai Puram over two weekends, starting May 16, 2009.

The same was covered in Ergo, the Hindu Metroplus etc.
