Inanimate Insanity IV

The fourth season of the American animated web series Inanimate Insanity, also known as Inanimate Insanity IV and abbreviated as II4, was created by Adam Katz and premiered on YouTube on July 14, 2025. The season first aired exclusively at the BFDI x Inanimate Insanity 2025 Tour, with its first episode shown live at venues from June 27 to July 13, 2025, before its YouTube release the following day. The second episode similarly debuted on the live tour from July 19 to August 3, 2025, before releasing on YouTube on August 4, 2025. Episode 5, "All Play and No Work", premiered theatrically at select Regal Cinemas locations across the United States on April 1, 2026, as part of the Inanimate Insanity: Celebrating 15 Years! event, before releasing on YouTube on April 2, 2026.

Unlike previous seasons, Season 4 focuses on the contestants' lives following the conclusion of Inanimate Insanity II: The Movie, while retaining a competition-based format. Episodes are designed to flow directly into one another, with each picking up immediately where the last left off. The season features 24 contestants — the largest cast in the series to date — including 10 newcomers and 14 returning competitors from previous seasons. Fan and Test Tube serve as the new hosts, replacing MePhone4. A new gameplay mechanic, the Rejoin Scoreboard, is introduced, allowing eliminated contestants to earn points by assisting active teams in challenges and automatically rejoin the game upon reaching five points.

The season was officially confirmed in the video "Inanimate Insanity SEASON 4!?" posted to YouTube on April 4, 2025.

Background

Prior to the season's announcement, creator Adam Katz confirmed at the Inanimate Insanity II: The Movie Q&A panel at Laemmle Glendale on November 26, 2024, that the series would continue. The official continuation was first teased in the announcement post for Inanimate Insanity (Season 1 Remastered) on March 1, 2025. Season 4 was formally confirmed on April 4, 2025. On April 26, 2025, Katz and co-director Brian Koch confirmed during a livestream that the season would explore what "living their lives" means for the returning characters in the aftermath of the Season 2 finale, and would adopt a new animation style reminiscent of Season 1 Remastered while drawing from late Season 2 and Season 3.

Production

The season continues to use Adobe Animate as its primary animation software. Its art style blends elements from Season 1 Remastered, late Season 2, and Season 3. In April 2025, AnimationEpic posted an open call for production staff, seeking animators, storyboard artists, and props and background designers. Season 4 is noted as the first season in the series not to be hosted by MePhone4, and the first to feature writing contributions from Benjamin Cross. Season 4 is anticipated to be the longest season in the series' history, with more than 18 or 19 episodes expected.

Cast

Season 4 features 24 contestants, the largest cast in the series' history. Fourteen return from previous seasons: four from Season 1 (Balloon, Blueberry, Lightbulb, and Paper), six from Season 2 (Baseball, Cherries, Microphone, Paintbrush, Soap, and Suitcase), and four from Season 3 (Cabby, Clover, Goo, and Pepper). Ten contestants are new to the series: Cammy, Jack, Lifering, Magnet, Poppy, Saw, Starfruit, Tapey, Teddy Bear, and Spikey, with Magnet and Starfruit marking their overall contestant debuts after previously being dropped from Inanimate Insanity Invitational. Fan and Test Tube, previously Season 2 contestants, return as the new hosts of the competition.

The contestants are divided into four teams: Thematic Cats, Go Big or Be Last, Heavy Metal Pop Stars, and Circumspect.
