In and Out of Focus: The Music of Jan Akkerman and Focus is the biography of Jan Akkerman. Akkerman (born 24 December 1946) is a Dutch guitarist, who has played in a wide range of styles from jazz and rock to classical guitar and flute. It deals with his time with Dutch rock Focus and his lengthy solo career.

Jan Akkerman and Focus have carved a niche in the annals of rock music history as one of the few Dutch artistes able to command an international audience and capture the imagination with a durable BLEND of classical/jazz/fusion rock.

In an explosive period of three years Focus collectively scooped many music awards, had best-selling chart albums, and in 1973 Jan Akkerman was voted 'best international guitarist' by the readers of UK music paper Melody Maker.
