{{advert} The Illinois Trade Association is a trade clearinghouse based in Lincolnwood, IL, open to all businesses in the state of Illinois. The ITA was founded in 1983 by Jack Schacht and Joan Varner.
In 1983 Jack Schacht created the Illinois Trade Association. He and his partner Joan Varner took one of the world’s oldest forms of business---barter---and thoroughly modernized it by bringing together thousands of companies that wanted to trade with each other.
Rather than having its clients dealing on a one-on-one basis, ITA offered a clearing house where all trades could be handled. Clients could select products and services from any of the 6,000 other ITA client-companies. ITA is now the largest independent retail barter company in the country.
Unlike many other barter companies, ITA usually works on a full-trade basis. Payment is made in trade credits that can be used to purchase media, travel and a wide selection of other services and merchandise.
By providing trade credits to clients and focusing efforts on full-trade transactions, ITA can significantly reduce cash expenses. Accordingly, clients with limited budgets can use barter to purchase services that have previously been considered too expensive.
