IDM Music

IDM Music is an international music publishing company headquartered in Zagreb, Croatia and New York City, controlling the majority of the music publishing market share in the territories of ex-Yugoslavia. The company operates in the following fields: regional representation and copyright control and administration of signed artists and labels, licensing of music for synchronization purposes (TV, Radio, Web, Film, etc.), promotional activities, and music production.

Another notable activity of IDM Music is administrating the worldwide rights for the Bixio catalogue, which consists of the Italian evergreens and the cult OST music of more than 650 Italian films from the ‘30s to ‘90s of the last century (the most representative composers are Ennio Morricone, Lalo Schifrin, Nino Rota, Pino and the group Goblin). Bixio’s catalogue has been used in many famous Hollywood movies such as: Kill Bill vol. 1, Inglourious Basterds, The Godfather Part III, Goodfellas, Dawn of the Dead, The Rounders, Mickey Blue Eyes, Titus and Drag Me to Hell.

Some of the most important catalogues represented by IDM in the region are: EMI, Kobalt, Chrysalis, Cherry Lane, Bug music, Irma, Ishtar, Peer Music, Westbury etc, as well as many local music labels.

IDM Music was founded by Tomo in der Mühlen in Germany in 1988 for the purposes of handling video and audio productions throughout former Yugoslavia.

In 1990 IDM Music ltd. opened branches in Zagreb (Ex Yugoslavia) and Italy, o/b/o Bixio Music Group. It was the first privately owned Music Company in the territory of ex-Yugoslavia. The company co-owned a recording & video studio in Croatia called SIM Studios, which was involved in 80% of Yugoslav music production, having sold approximately 20 million records.

A New York City branch of IDM Music opened in 1992. The Company’s main target became Music Publishing, specialized in the exploitation of back catalogue. IDM/Bixio became known as the “Italian Connection,” because of its representation of 80% of Italian Indies.

Functioning as a Rights Clearance Agency in the USA for Croatian Production Companies, IDM saw an opportunity in a virgin territory to develop music publishing, hence the opening of IDM d.o.o. in Croatia in 2003.

IDM Music has gained a national & international reputation for placement (local & international) of Music in Motion Pictures, TV Advertisement as well as actively pursuing alternative channels of revenue, such as granting back catalogue songs for sample usage to the hip hop community: i.e. G-Unit, Beck, Keith Murray, Lloyd Banks, T.I., Redman etc. IDM also licenses songs and compiles compilations for other companies.

At the end of 2008. IDM Music acquired the EMI Music Publishing catalogue, with more than a million songs in its repertoire, including some of the most recognizable hits in music history.

In 2009, IDM Music created a record label TOM TOM MUSIC with the goal to release new Croatian as well as foreign artists.

The company continues to expand its international as well as local catalogue while shifting focus at the same time to exploration of alternative revenue options, such as digital distribution, premiums and sales through newspapers and digital stores.
