Ian Devine

Ian Devine is a guitarist and song writer from the UK. His actual name is Ian Pincombe. He lives in Cardiff, Wales. He is best known for his work with the group Ludus featuring Linder Sterling's vocals and the records he produced with the singer Alison Statton formerly of the groups Weekend and Young Marble Giants.

His guitar work with Ludus was very jazz inflected, and showed great dexterity and a penchant for melodies that could swing from lyrical and almost wistful to angular and angry. After splitting up with Linder, he returned to Wales and formed Heb Gariad, who signed to the Welsh-language Anrhefn label. In 1992, he played with Cardiff group Low Gods. From there, he began working with Alison Statton. This work was much different, and was of a decidedly more "folk" music bent, with clear and largely unprocessed vocals, acoustic guitars, violin, and bass often dominating the arrangements. A notable effort was their acoustic rendering of The New Order dance hall hit, "Bizarre Love Triangle".

In 2001, he again worked with Linder on some projects and concerts, releasing a 7 track CD, Requiem.
