I Am 8-bit

I Am 8-bit is a collection of art pieces featuring the old Namco and Nintendo characters, such as Mario, Zelda, Pac-Man, and Frogger.

History

I Am 8-bit debuted in spring 2005, as “a daring collection of new art that treated the games as a subject worth exploring in a gallery.” It returned again in April 2006, and ended in May.

Artists

Many artists contributed to the gallery, and the gallery was a success. The show-stealer for Nintendo fans, however, was Gabe Swarr, the painter of ‘Antique Link’, and ‘Mario Power-ups’. His unique style and bizarre portrayal of the Mario universe allowed him to create a poster for Nintendo Power. The most unusual artist, however, was Yosuke Ueno, who painted two untitled pieces. Other artists included: Misha, Ryan Bubnis, Amanda Visell, Daniel Peacock, 7teen, Dave Crosland, Jim Rugg, Dan Santat, Mark Bodnar, Matt Burlingame, Jason Torchinsky, Sandra Equihua, Rocky Fleishour, and many others.
