Human Development Program (HDP) is a non-Government Development Organization working with people in rural and urban areas of Bangladesh. It came into existence in 4th January 1982 in response to the perceived need of the locality by the initiative a team of social workers with a view to alleviate poverty and enhancement of security and dignity of target people through capacity building and empowerment.
Target Beneficiaries of HDP: Poor and disadvantage people (especially women, children & youth) irrespective of religion, faith class and ethnicity. Main focus extreme poor and indigenous community.

Structure of HDP
A General Board and an Executive Committee govern HDP- Bangladesh. The General Board consists of 21 members with the different professionals like Social Workers, Farmers, School Teachers, Businessmen, Local elites etc. Representation of the landless groups is also ensured. There is an Executive Committee consisting of seven members. The General Board members select the Executive Committee members. In fact Executive Committee helps the Secretary General to carryout the programs of HDP-Bangladesh. The Secretary General is responsible for implementing the development activities that gets suggestions & guidance from the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee use to hold Meeting regular bi-monthly to review the activities and ProgresS of the organization or when it needed
Working Areas of HDP
The working areas of the HDP cover 72 villages of 31 unions under 12 Upzailas under Dhaka, Narayangonj, Tangail, Gazipur, Mymensingh districts under Dhaka Division.
Objective of HDP:
To raise sociocultural status of the rural poor through developing values and norms, creating social awareness, workshop, seminars, training and legal assistance.
To raise the economic status of the rural poor through providing skill training.
To integrate education and rehabilitation of the visually handicapped children and adolescents.
To provide youth formation, education and leadership for the needy youths.
To provide rehabilitation services to the aged people.
To provide literacy through Non-formal primary education to children and adults.
To develop health and nutrition status of the poor women and children through awareness building on homestead vegetable gardening and plantation farm etc.
“STOP AIDS to Keep Own Commitment” awareness and motivation to youths
To ensure better housing facilities for the shelter less and for the poor
To establish eco-village sustainable development and environment friendly agriculture development in rural areas.
To ensure environment balance through social forestry and bio diversity
To provide emergency relief and rehabilitation supports as and when needed.
Major activities (Proposed) under some specific interventions of HDP: HDP likes to give emphasize on some major interventions in future to uplift the socio-economic status of the poor people, especially the disable children and ethnic community both in the rural and urban area. Activities of HDP:
Presently HDP has been implementing its development interventions through consciousness rising with a special focus on development of values and norms of the people as a whole. This is because HDP believes that at present in our society values and norms are crucial for any changes since these are the basic things that make people perceive and see things the way they are and help them realize the way they should be. Along with social awareness raising activities, HDP has been also carrying out the skill development projects for the economic development of the people and to enhance their living standard.
The overall project activities include Formation of Groups of both Female and Male, Health Service, Leadership and Management Training, Groups Management and Skill development training, Adult Literacy Program and Support for Income Generating Activities (IGA), Non-Formal Children Education, Training on Health and Nutrition, Awareness Building Program Children’s Rights. Formulation of the Women’s Empowerment through Training, Micro-Credit Support and IGA Program are also undertaken as per demand of the local people.

FATHER TONINO MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Father Tonino Memorial Hospital is a charitable health service hospital situated at a small remote village in Habirbari Union of Bhaluka Upazila(sub-district) under Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. The estimated of 525,450 population live in this area.63% of these population are extremely poor who can not afford basic calorie food requirement round the year and have no ability to buy or afford quality health services from commercial health sources. Incidences of sickness, children mortality and morbidity are very high. Community people are largely daily wage laborer, low paid wage earner and odd job workers. Illiteracy, ignorance and unawareness on health and hygiene largely exist among 35% of total population who are also ethnic minority people and hardcore poor. Human Development Program (HDP) first started as small health care awareness and hygiene education unit in the year 2000.Since then primary healthcare motivation, water & sanitation motivation, nutrition motivation have been place. The small health promotional service unit was build in preventive and curative healthcare center in the year 2003 with support of Anesvad, PARCUSE and Marist Mission Centre as “Father Tonino Memorial Hospital” in the year 2004 (Late Rev.Fr.Tonino was dedicated himself for the poor health services in this area and he died 28/12/97).Hospital is registered with the Government Health Department in 2008.From 2004 to 2008 total 199,928 children, 37,045 women, 13,442 males & 5,465 adolescent girl patients received health services from the hospital.
We are proud and happy to our Director of Human Resources Development Md. Rabiul Islam(Monju) also has taken the responsibility as a Hospital Director to develop more effective initiatives for ensuring humanitarian services. Mr. Rabiul is a bonafied and dedicated Health Services Promoter for the poor. email : hrddirector@hdpbd.com Mr. Rabiul witnessed health services with the patients, about their problems, or any other facilities they might need. Most of the patients are happy with our general health services, but they also have shared that they need specialized doctors in different sections which HDP at present cannot provide.At present HDP have one MBBS doctor, one paramedic, two female nurses, one radiologist and one pathologist technician. In this situation, Mr. Rabiul Islam’s assistance in developing hospital services would enrich HDP initiative and this would be obviously benefited for the betterment of health services of the poor people in the area. Monthly Meeting: Mr. Rabiul is sharing with HDP key staffs about the future plan of hospital development activities. HDP is looking forward necessary assistance from the national and international medical volunteers for its ongoing health activities for the needy patients. : Mr. Rabiul is herby encouraging some USA medical volunteers’ (doctors) and organizations to visit Bangladesh to help the poor people through HDP hospital. Mr. Rabiul is sharing meeting with HDP health staffs, especially with the doctor & nurses how to ensure HDP Hospital services more effectively. He, in his discussion meeting raised the issues of humanitarian services, sincerity and commitment of the hospital staff as to ensure doorstop health services for the needy people.
