HP Output Server
HP Output Server is the core platform of every HP Output Management solution, which are designed to provide reliable delivery of business-critical documents, streamlined business processes, and real-time notification of device malfunctions or job interruptions.
HP Output Server also enables centralized management for tracking and controlling, allowing enterprise IT managers to more easily incorporate new output destinations.
Functionality
Delivery manager
- Enables enterprise-wide management, Providing a single route to all output devices
- Receives output from a variety of client sources
- Routes all requests across the LAN or WAN to the correct output queues
- Supports distribution lists meant for broadcast delivery
Job and queue manager
- Converts job formats (such as PCL 5, PostScript, TIFF) automatically
- Maintains queues (and their jobs) until the target output device is ready
- Enables a single manager to control different types of queues (print, fax, Web), as well as multiple devices within each queue
- Operators can set queue policy and check delivery authorizations
Destination manager
- Converts job formats (such as PCL 5, PostScript, TIFF) automatically
- Recognizes the format of an inbound jobs
- Converts an inbound jobs to a format recognized by the receiving output device
Event manager
- Tracks job status events and output destination status events
- Enables both administrators and end users to receive notification of specified events via graphical display, e-mail or pager
- Integrates with popular systems management tools, such as HP Software
Privilege manager
- Ensures the security and control of document delivery
- Ensures all management operations and job deliveries are authorized
- Controls access to output resources by job attributes, destination, group or individual
- Restricts alterations to HP Output Server's resources and configuration
Configuration manager
- Simplifies administration
- Removes the need for discrete client drivers for each output resource
- Offers a single-system interface to output management resources, including queues, services, and output destinations
- Provides a common interface to configure different types of destinations
Accounting and inventory manager
- Simplifies administration by maintaining an inventory of output resources and related usage statistics
- Facilitates performance management
- Assists in load balancing
- Assesses resource usage

- Device templates and device capabilities tickets are provided for HP printers that to help ensure HP devices provide reliable printing using checkpointing and other features and capabilities.
- Certified device configuration for some non-HP print devices are provided by HP upoon the manufacturer's request.
