House of Rauch

The word Rauch means “smoke” in German. Several members of the von Rauch family, which is of Bavarian origin, were distinguished in the 19th century, including two generals of the napoleonic Wars, father and son. The younger, General Gustav von Rauch (1774-1841) became Prussian Minister of War in 1812. His daughter, Countess http://www.schloss-albrechtsberg.de/uploads/pics/ASA_FO_Rosalie_RZ.jpg]Rosalie von Rauch, was a Princess of the Prussian Court by virtue of her marriage to Prince Albrecht of Prussia. The House holds the titles of Count von Hohenau and Freiherr von Rauch.

Freiherr Levin Rauch de Nyek (1819 - 1890) was Ban (Viceroy) of Croatia. His son Paul was killed in action in 1918; Paul's beautiful widow Elsa (née Moretti) remarried to Robert von Blumenthal in 1921.

In modern times the most famous member of this family was the anarchist Georg von Rauch, a [...] who was shot dead by police in 1971.
