Hotel tall trees

Tall Trees is a hotel, entertainment and leisure complex situated on the outskirts of Teesside.

The Tall Trees complex is a short drive from Durham Tees Valley International Airport and within a few minutes of the A19, A66 & A1

Tall Trees is perhaps most famous for 'Club M', the huge nightclub which adjoins the hotel. When the refurbished Club M opened in 1997, it was the largest nightclub in the UK and even today, with a 7,000 capacity, is still one of the biggest, and most renowned, clubs in Britain.

Without doubt, the most successful club night at Club M was 'Retro', and DJ Paul Taylor is known throughout the North East because of the enormity of his Retro night. Its mix of classic house and new electrofunk has been a huge success in the region and beyond. Trips from Newcastle, York and Leeds are common. Although its popularity has not waned, the arrangement between the club and the event was broken with immediate effect in September 2007, with Retro moving to nearby venue The Empire in Middlesbrough. Paul Taylor explained that the reasons for this decision included the increasing 'chav problem' (with many people from Stockton and Thornaby attending, no thanks to Galaxy radio) and the general state of the club, which badly needs a refurbishment. Tall Trees took the decision to replace 'Retro' with the competing night 'Retro Heaven', which enjoys huge success in Leeds. Retro Heaven ceased its residency at Tall Trees on New Years Eve 2007.

Goodgreef has held a residency at the venue since 2002, occuring on the third Saturday of the month. Like Retro Heaven, this contract will also conclude on Saturday 16th February 2008.

In the past, the club hosted an 'all you can drink' evening on a Friday evening for over 21s. This was stopped in 2005 to ease binge drinking problems in the region. Since the demise of Retro, however, the club briefly relauched the 'all you can drink' NiGHTS at a cost of £20.

In early 2007, final planning permission was granted to knock down the complex and build 250 top of the range studio flats. This was denied by the owners well into 2007, however it has recently been confirmed. The Goodgreef event on Saturday 16th February 2008 is to be the final event held at Club M before it closes its doors for good. The nightclub will then be demolised to make way for the apartment complex. Plans for the site can be viewed on the Tall Trees website.

Local nightclub Millennium on Teesside Park is reopening in February 2008, more than 6 years after it was closed. Rumours are rife that the owners of Tall Trees have bought the nightclub to continue their association with clubbing in the North East.
