Hope Development Volunteers
Hope Development Volunteers (Volunteer Abroad Africa)- (HDV) is a service organization with a dual role: serving both the needs of volunteers and not-for-profit organizations in Africa. As a matchmaker, HDV matches volunteers with the non-profit organizations in Africa that need them. HDV runs a Volunteer Referral Service that assists not-for-profits to find the right volunteer for the right volunteer placements.
History
HDV began in 2009 as a project of BoHU referring volunteers only to partners of BoHU. In 2009, based on demand for its services (non-profit needs of volunteers and desire for volunteers to come to Africa), HDV expanded its scope to include all organizations in Uganda. At this time, HDV became incorporated under Hope Development Volunteers Ltd and expanded its services to include other countries in Africa.
HDV was founded and has flourished on the belief that volunteers not only enhance the programs they assist, but also benefit from the experience in several ways. They gain a broader perspective of the needs of Africa and its people, become more informed and more ACTIVE advocates for the betterment and often improve their skills or learn new ones.
Mission statement
HDV is a not-for-profit organization established to function as an effective liaison in Africa between volunteers and non-profit organizations in need of volunteer services. Such organizations include health and human services, arts and cultural institutions, and community services among others. HDV is committed to providing an effective service to refer as many volunteers as possible
