Holy Cross Senior Secondary School Kapa

Holy Cross Senior Secondary School Kapa was established in 1992 in Raipur, India by Rev. Father Arogyadas Kottana as an extension of Esteemed Holy Cross Byron Bazar.

There are two school buildings separated by a Walkway, one for the Pre-Primary School (LKG,UKG) and the other for The Primary-Secondary School (grades 1 - 12). The secondary school building boasts a standard size football ground, turf wicket cricket field, separate courts for netball, volleyball, basketball.

Being A Part

Admission is mostly at LKG level and is fiercely competitive, with personal InterViews. For all the senior grades competition rises with every new academic year and students sit for entrance test to get hold of very few limited seats. The admission is strictly on MERIT basis.

Academic affiliation

The school when started was affiliated to MPBSE, and got affiliated to CBSE (Central Board Of Secondary Education) in 1998.

School session

The school session is from April to March. Saturday is the normal half day and Sunday being a holiday.

Uniform

The pre-primary school uniform is shirts with red and white checks and for primary-secondary school students beige shirt with dark brown pleated trousers and socks. During winter months a dark brown pullover is permitted.

Footwear is black leather shoes with laces. On days when students have Physical Training in school, they have to wear white canvas sport shoes.

The school tie is dark brown with white slanting stripes. It is compulsory on every day basis.

Curriculum

Students follow either the CBSE or Madhyamik curriculum till class 12, however, they must follow the curriculum, but may choose to study either Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology/Computer Science) or Commerce (Commerce, Accounts, Economics and Maths). An Indian Language must be offered up to class 12.

House system

The secondary school students are grouped into four houses named after Basic Colors. These are:

  • Yellow - Born To Win.
  • Blue - Soar High To Reach The Sky.
  • Green - We Can, We Shall, We Will.
  • Red - Excel In Excellence

Each house has a House Captain and a House Vice Captain - GeneRally students of grades 11 and 9 respectively. Reporting to them are the House Representatives - one for each of the other grades. These executive members are selected by voting amongst the students belonging to each house.

The houses compete against each other in sports and cultural competitions. On the annual sports day, the winning house is declared on the basis of points earned by its students throughout the year.

Student Governance

Student governance system is a highlight of the institution. It follows by the format of open/closed ballot system. The representatives are elected class wise and the post holders are elected by the staff. Head boy and head girl of the senior most grade preside the student's council. The electoral system, settles Head Boy and Head Girl at the apex. Just a designation below them are deputy Head Boy and deputy Head Girl. All the committees have their respective heads elected by classes and selected by school administration.

Rendezvous

The School is coming up with an inter-school bonanza like never before. The Academic, cultural cum sports extravaganza hits the crowd on 19th of December, giving spaces to all track and filed events, quiz in all formats and clash of titans for dance and dramatic supremacy. The fest holds scenario from 19th Dec to 22nd December 2009.

Farewell

The school gives a heartwarming farewell each year to its students of 12th standard. It is mainly organised by the students of class 11th. It includes a program with dances, games, speeches, vote of thanks and crowning of Mr. and Miss Holy Cross and Mr. and Miss Eve. Mr. and miss Holy cross are selected by the principal on all round performance and cooperation and Mr. and Miss Eve is selected live by judges on the basis of a fashion show. The criteria for selection includes presentation and dress. Selected candidates have to go through a questionaire round and then the winners are declared.
The general dress code is Saree for 12th standard girls and suit for 12th standard boys. 11th class volunteers wear school uniform and anchors of the show wear white kurti and blue jeans.
