History of MADtv (2000–05)
The following is a history of the FOX sketch series ''MADtv from the 2000 television season to 2005'''.
2000–2005
After the departures of Phil LaMarr and Pat Kilbane, with the exception of Will Sasso, Aries Spears and Michael McDonald, the major sketches and characters from 2000 to 2005 were led by the female cast members.
Season 6
In season 6 cast members Nicole Sullivan and Debra Wilson continued to produce sketches with the recurring characters Sullivan with The Vancome Lady, Antonia, and Darlene McBride. Wilson with Bunifa Latifah Halifah Sharifa Jackson, and her Oprah Winfrey impression.
Sullivan created new characters including Diane Lawyer-Trabajo for the News at 6 sketch, Charlotte (Anti-Depressercize Minute), Mimi O'Malley (The O'Malley's), Champagne (The Stick Chicks), Inga (Hoppy Potty), Susan Caydel (The Caydels) and she and Michael McDonald created the character Judith for the couple sketch. Wilson's new characters included Autumn (Stick Chicks), Rosa Marticorena (News at Six), Miss Sylvia, Alexis Dubane (Prehistoric Glamazon Huntresses) and Ms. Not Nice (Jenny Jones).
Sullivan and Wilson created the promiscuous Latina duo Lida and Melina. Wilson and Aries Spears played Tovah McQueen in the Reality Check sketches and Nautica Brown from Real Mother****ing Talk with Dollar Bill Montgomery. Other women in the show included repertory players Alex Borstein, Mo Collins and featured player Stephnie Weir.
Season 7, 8
In the seventh season (2001–2002) Nicole Sullivan, Christian Duguay, and Nelson Ascencio left the show, with Bobby Lee (the first and only Asian cast member - Lee is Korean-American), Stephnie Weir, Andrew Daly, Taran Killam (the youngest ever cast member at 19 years old, the first and only one to have gotten his start on children's shows, and one of two former MADtv cast members to be hired on Saturday Night Live), and Jill-Michele Meleán (the first Hispanic woman hired) joining.
By the eighth season (2002–2003), Alex Borstein, Will Sasso and Andrew Daly had left the cast while Killam was fired. With Debra Wilson as the only member of the original cast from season one left, FOX hired Ike Barinholtz, Frank Caliendo, Josh Meyers (younger brother of SNL cast member Seth Meyers, making Josh Meyers the only MADtv cast member to have a sibling on a competing sketch show), Ron Pederson (the only Canadian-born cast member hired on MADtv), and Paul Vogt (the only homosexual male cast member ever hired on the show and the only cast member to have an identical twin).
Season 9
For the ninth season (2003–2004) Debra Wilson left the show, making her the last member of the original cast to leave the show. The cast was composed of Ike Barinholtz, Frank Caliendo, Mo Collins, Bobby Lee, Michael McDonald, Josh Meyers, Ron Pederson, Aries Spears, Paul Vogt, and Stephnie Weir, along with newly hired featured performers Daniele Gaither (hired following Debra Wilson's departure), Keegan-Michael Key, Nicole Parker, Melissa Paull, Jordan Peele, and Gillian Vigman.
Season 10
The tenth season (2004–2005) premiered without Mo Collins and in the middle of the season, Aries Spears announce that he would leave at the end of the tenth season.
