Hermann Gmeiner Science Club

Hermann Gmeiner Science Club is one of the prominent science clubs in Bangladesh. It operates the quiz and science based programs in SOS Hermann Gmeiner College, Dhaka.

The club was established in 2004 under the first moderator of the club Rafia Akhter. The first President of the club was Ashikur Rahman.

The club and its activities are controlled by an Executive Committee of around 10 members and under the observation of the Moderator who is selected by SOS Hermann Gmeiner College authority.

Activities

For a decade it has been working very energetically. The club usually helps its members in scientific project works and organizes workshops, festivals etc.

Project Works

The club has been helping its members to create dummy science-based projects on various important matters, which can be implemented to protect the environment and human race with the help of science. These projects are displayed in the science fair organized by Heramnn Gmeiner Science Club during the Hermann Gmeiner Week.

These projects have been praised by The Famous Doctor and former President of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh Dr. AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, famous science-based writer Abdullah-Al-Muti Sharfuddin, Professor Emeritus Dr. Mohammed Anisujjaman, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University professor Emajuddin Ahamed, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University and diplomat professor Dr. M. Maniruzzaman Miah, science fiction writer and the professor of SUST Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal , Deputy Editor of Prothom Alo Anisul Haque etc. during their visit.

General Knowledge Competition

The most notable efficiency has been shown by the quiz teams nurtured by the club. Quizzers of Hermann Geminer Science Club have performed so well in various general knowledge competitions. They were the runner-up in Horlicks Junior Bangladesh in 2007.

For last few years the quiz teams have been performing so well and have achieved many prizes in many national competitions organized by other science clubs of Bangladesh.

Workshop

Hermann Gmeiner Science Club organizes workshops to improve the skill of the junior quizzers once in a month. In these workshops the senior quizzers and the quiz masters from the institution share their knowledge and experience among the new quizzers.

These workshops evaluate the level of the quizzers who are selected by the Quizzer Hunt program that hold once in a year.

The members also attend in the workshops organized in other institutions.

Festival

The club has been regularly organizing science festivals annually since 2007. Due to some obstacles in 2009 no festival was organized by the club. But afterwards the endeavor by the club members helped the club to organize the festival regularly.

In these festivals students from various institutions come to participate in the Olympiads, General Knowledge Competition and Project Display. In the last festival organized by the club better known as “Farmfresh Science & Debate Festival, 2012” around 250 participants participated in various competitions.
