Here Comes the Wolf

Here Comes the Wolf: The Pandemic Hoax is an upcoming documentary film directed by J.J. Rendon which investigates the 2009 flu pandemic and the events leading up to it. The documentary examines how public opinion can be manipulated by larger organizations through the use of fear.

Synopsis

The documentary begins with the history of pandemics. Following this Dr. Tom Jefferson an (epidemiologist) describes how pandemics occur. After this is describe and compared with other pandemics alerts like the hong kong flu and the 1976 swine flu outbreak. The documentary follows how the political interest, pharmaceutical industry and the WHO benefit from peoples fears.

The documentary emphasises on the moment when Margaret Chan, Director-General of the WHO declared that the disease was a pandemic. This event occurred following Felipe Calderón's, the former Mexican president, report to the WHO that there was an unexpected increase in respiratory infections. The narrator of the documentary goes on to say that ¨Similar experiences that have been registered in humanity's different periods of time that is, epidemics related to the emergence of new and unknown influenza viruses in several countries, have mostly resulted in an enormous number of infected people as well as an enormous number of deaths." Then the documentary recalls that in the spring of 1976 president Gerald Ford asked for a massive immunization campaign to avoid the pandemic. The pandemic never materialized in the United States or anywhere else in the world, and it is argued that the feared pandemic never existed.

It is then explained that there were fears that the H1N1 virus had mutated to resemble the Spanish flu virus, which had killed more than 50 million people at the beginning of the 20th century. After all the media frenzy on April 21, Mexico notifies the WHO about cases of severe respiratory infections. Right after that on April 23, Mexico announces the first laboratory confirmed cases of type A ( H1N1) flu, and then again on April 25, the Director-General of the WHO declares an international public health emergency. Margaret Chan decided to raise the current level of influenza pandemic alert from phase 4 to phase V. On May 16, during an official ceremony in the Mexican presidential home, Mexico donated a vial of type A (H1N1) virus for the production of a vaccine. The documentary argues that in 2009 the world health organization changed the definition of pandemic, as it declared a pandemic in a case where there was no simultaneous outbreak, high mobility, high number of severe cases and mortality.
