Henry Wilmer
Henry Wilmer (born 17 November 1995) is an award-winning British journalist and filmmaker, currently employed as Head of Content Implementation & Delivery at Blippar - one of the worlds leading visual discovery app, using augmented reality and machine learning to bring the physical world to life through smartphones and wearables. He was previously a Digital Journalist for the BBC where he made and reported for feature videos and documentaries shown on BBC TV, online and social media. Henry is also known for his YouTube channel, 'TheHenryWilmer'.
Career
During school Henry started a radio programme (Thornbury FM) and began video production. He studied at Gloucestershire College before becaming a Broadcast Assistant at BBC Radio Bristol working on a wide range of radio programmes across local BBC radio stations. After a couple of years, he moved to London to work on BBC Trending, as an Audience Engagement Producer, Social Media Manager, Broadcast Journalist and finally an Assistant News Editor at BBC Three.
In January 2016 Henry began his role as a Content Strategist for augmented reality and visual discovery platform Blippar. In November 2016 he became Head of Content Implementation and Delivery for which he works between London and Mountain View, California.
Henry's Twitter handle was circulated within articles where he was quoted as the first person to discover the in app browser for Facebook. He is also recognised for presenting online content for BBC News.
Awards
Henry has been part of various teams who have been nominated and won a variety of awards. In 2015, as part of the BBC Trending team Henry won a Webby Award for Social: News and information 2015. In 2016, as part of an ABC Nightline and BBC digital documentary partnership, Henry was awarded an honorary Webby Award for Online Film & Video, Documentary Series.
