Hector Olea

Hector Olea (born July 13, 1958) is a Mexican economist known as Chairman of the Mexican Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) and President and CEO of Gauss Energia.

Early life and education

Born in Chihuahua, Mexico,Hector holds a B.A. Economics from (ITAM), M.A. Economics and Ph.D. Economics from Rice University.

Career

Hector Olea, after earning his doctorate in Rice University, formed part of the negotiating team that represented Mexico in the NAFTA negotiations. In 1995, he was appointed Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission in Mexico. During his tenor, he led the design of a regulatory and institutional framework for the power and gas sector that promote the private participation sector, creating a climate of transparency and regulatory certainty for project development.

Since 2004, Hector has been the President and CEO of Gauss Energia, a business development firm that specialize on Mexico’s energy sector. Since 2014, Dr. Olea is President of ASOLMEX (Asociacion Mexicana de Energia Solar Fotovoltaica). He is a co-chairman of US-MX Energy Business Council and member of the Mexican Energy Council.
