Heba Abed

Background
Heba is the fifth of seven children of wealthy parents, brought up Riyadh the capital and largest city of Saudi Arabia. Heba father is a diplomatic ambassador and a successful businessman and her mother is an educated homemaker. Heba has stated about her father, “He fantasized about the west, romanticized the west. Heba inherited her talent of drawing from him as he was ambitious, connoisseur of art, and fond of the European art in rural. However, he did not find time to practice Art.
Her obsession with art began in her childhood when she used to sneak to her dressing room, hide, and draw every emotion and every teacher.
Heba participated in many exhibitions starting from 2007 till nowadays in several countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Morocco and Italy. For instance, The second annual exhibition "Made by my hands" in King Abdulaziz University 2007, Arab Quill Exhibition 2009, Controversial Dialogues Exhibition 2011, Al-Janadriyah Exhibition 2012, Missing Feelings Exhibition (Drawing Poems Collection) 2012, Women’s Wright Documentary 2012, Affordable Art exhibition and The Art Movement Exhibition 2012.

Heba Abed Invented

Blind spot concept as visual and metaphor subjects thru her masters dagger thesis and her participating in number of group art exhibitions around the world. Abed's work explores the
Scotoma and its potential applications in her society, particularly within subjects that are often overlooked such as incorrect translations of Arabic or the substitution of symbols for Arabic phonemes that do not exist in European languages.

Franco Man in Scotoma
In 2011 Heba made this installation during her research, it was displayed in Young Saudi Artist 2, Athr Gallery. she called it Franco Man in Scotoma.
This installation was about replacing the Arabic Alphabets with the Franco Arab. You can see both kind of
Scotoma visually and intellectually thru the optical illusions, and the linguistic deception.
It was an interactive installation.

In 2013 Heba addressed issues thru Scotoma in her society again, such as misrepresenting the Arabic alphabets by other symbols in a satirical comic style project, which she participated with in the 55th Venice biennale -Rhizoma- under the name Scotoma, Lost in Transliteration. Wallada was sold to Princess Sita bint Abdullah Al Saud.
Scotoma in Jeddah Art Weeks
Heba joined other exhibitions in 2012, 2013, 2014 including Athr Gallery, Arabian Wings Auction, Mostly Visible, Young Saudi artist in Jeddah and around the world.

Art and career
Heba have established the Visual Art Division in NSA Alj, Assist with administrative tasks, gallery operations, managing the designs, products, managing NSA gallery hall, products display, utilizing modern techniques ideas, Creating new production lines and creating new concepts and themes.
