Haven (Artemis Fowl)
Haven City is a fictitious fairy metropolis in the Artemis Fowl series. Located several hundred miles underground, it is the capital of the Lower Elements. Haven City, along with Atlantis, is one of the only places that a large number of fairies can live. The only humans known to have been to Haven are Artemis Fowl and his servant, Butler. Haven is powered by eco-friendly means, and as artificial sunstrips located on its ceiling to give the illusion of day and night. It's highways move vehicles along predetermined paths, like rails.
It was named Haven because it is one of the last havens for fairies. The centaur Foaly monitors its security systems, which include several means of detecting any human activity near Haven. He put the city into lockdown mode and shut down almost all power after detecting human activity in the third book, Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code. Haven is reached from the surface by means of large, metallic eggs which ride on magma chutes.
In the second book, Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident, it was overrun by goblins during their uprising which was led by Opal Koboi and Briar Cudgeon.
