Hande Çevgel
Elif Hande Çevgel (also romanised as Hande Cevgel) is a Turkish singer and musician working in the traditions of Turkish folk music and cross-cultural world music. She gained wider international recognition in May 2026 when she featured as a lead vocalist on the opening track of Coke Studio Bangla Season 4, a landmark Bengali–Turkish musical collaboration.
Career
Coke Studio Bangla Season 4 (2026)
In May 2026, Çevgel was selected as one of the featured artists on Room Jhoom, the opening track of Coke Studio Bangla Season 4. The season was launched by Coca-Cola Bangladesh to coincide with the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh's national poet, on 25 May 2026.
"Room Jhoom" traces its musical heritage to Üsküdar'a Gider İken, a centuries-old Ottoman-Turkish folk melody. Kazi Nazrul Islam had once adapted this tune and reimagined it as a Bengali monsoon-themed poem, a song that generations of Bangladeshis grew up knowing without awareness of its cross-continental origins. The Coke Studio Bangla reinterpretation was designed to reconnect these two cultural threads, blending South Asian and Turkish musical influences into a single contemporary composition.
Çevgel performed alongside fellow Turkish musician Mustafa İpek, as well as Bangladeshi singers Mahtim Shakib and Nusrat Jahan. The track was produced by Shuvendu Das.
The track premiered on Coke Studio Bangla's official YouTube channel and marked the debut of both Mahtim Shakib and Nusrat Jahan on the platform.
The fourth season of Coke Studio Bangla was structured around eight songs in total, each exploring distinct emotional and musical themes that highlight diverse sonic traditions and cross-cultural reinterpretations.
Since its launch in 2022, Coke Studio Bangla has accumulated over 4 million subscribers and more than 926 million views globally.
