Appearances

The Ruins of Gorlan

Halt is first introduced into the series in The Ruins of Gorlan as a mysterious cloaked figure in Baron Arald's office in Castle Redmont. The author originally CREATES the image of Halt as tough, old fashioned, and most certainly someone you wouldn't want to cross. However, as the storyline progesses the reader gains a greater insight into the real Halt and his friendly and humourous traits become more apparent. Halt is short and slim in CONTRAST to the townsfolk's gossip. His hair and beard are black but graying, and it is mentioned several times that he might cut his hair with his hunting knife. His eyes are also dark and he has a bit of a Hibernian accent.

In the time that Halt is teacher to his apprentice Will, their relationship develops thoroughly as they learn more AbOUT each other and gain one and others trust in their fights against the Kalkara, Lord Morgarath, Wargals, Skandians and the Temujai. It is for the first time in the fourth book, Oakleaf Bearers, that Will and Halt's relationship is likend to that of father and son (Halt having no children of his own).
