Halla (Pendragon)
Halla is a fictional universe in The Pendragon Adventure book series by D. J. MacHale. It is a fictional representation of the universe. It is divided up into ten territories, each territory unique. Halla has been stated to be "every place, every person, every time there ever was".
Territories
Listed in the order of their featuring in the books:
- Denduron — This is the first territory that the series’ protagonist, Bobby Pendragon, visits. Only one continent is shown, wherein the climate is sub-arctic. Three human cultures co-exist, albeit unequally until the climax of The Merchant of Death; the Bedoowan, the Milago, and the Novan. This territory was won by the travelers but may have a second turning point due to the references made in The Pilgrims of Rayne.
- Cloral — This territory is completely covered by water, except (at the end of The Lost City of Faar) on the island of Faar. Many humans live here on vast ships called habitats, each of which is organized around a social function. Cloral has a large diversity of animal life. This territory was won by the travelers.
- First Earth — Earth as it appears approximately seven decades before 2006-2007. This territory was won by the travelers.
- Veelox — Similar to twentieth-century Earth, but having more advanced technology. Ultimately overwhelmed by human addictions to virtual reality, wherein they imagine themselves as conforming to a given idea of perfection. This was the first territory lost to Saint Dane.
- Eelong — Shown to have jungles, plains, mountains, and a unique star resembling a massive, broad line or arc of light extending across the daytime sky. Inhabited by bipedal, civilized felines, called Klee; by humans, called Gar; and by large, predatory saurians, called Tangs.
- Zadaa — Said to be largely desert. Inhabited by many human tribes as well as by the feline zhou beasts, the insects called ceegee bugs, and (presumably) the other members of the food web to which these belong. Two human tribes, Batu and Rokador, live in a symbiosis that is threatened during the sixth book.
- Quillan — Similar in technology level to Veelox. Bobby Pendragon himself noted that Nevva Winter's description of Quillan before Blok took over sounded a lot like Second Earth. Quillan's human population was systematically subjugated by the corporation called Blok, which by selling many products at extremely low prices gained a monopoly on all commerce. Eventually, Blok absorbed all industry and subverted all culture, reducing the consumers of their products – consisting of the entire human population of Quillan – to mere vehicles by which Blok's shareholders, called trustees, became wealthier.
- Ibara - An island located on Veelox, three centuries after the events of The Reality Bug. Less technologically advanced and more pastoral than their "ancestors", the inhabitants of Ibara are descended from phaders from Veelox who settled the island after their society collapsed. This territory is said to be a tie against Saint Dane and Pendragon.
The following territories have not yet been the central territories to a book:
- Second Earth — Earth has been affected by forge has not yet had a turning point
- Third Earth — Earth still being affected by forge as it appears in the year 5010. A near utopia.
