Ground Alpha - The Band And Its Music

Ground Alpha is an independent rock band in Metro Manila. There are three words that generally describe their music - Direct, Powerful and Progressive. They play a brand of music that combines elements of Metal, Grunge, Punk, Blues, Reggae and Funk.

A Little History

Ground Alpha was conceived in the year 1998 when three brothers – Alphard (vocals, guitar), Dale (bass) and Ted Moro (drums, backup vocals) formed the Thrash Metal Band called Squash Morbid performing at events in High School, College, and in the local community. It was never really clear what made the Trio decide to change names and how they came up with “Ground Alpha” but it was a definitive point in jumpstarting the development of the bands musical identity. By the end of year 2000, the band started creating original material with Alphard largely in charge of the song writing.

In 2002, Jo Francisco joined the band as a second guitarist. Coming from a Hiphop and Rap-Metal Background as a vocalist for the band called Goldfish Unlimited, Jo’s addition gave the band to an opportunity to explore new elements in music. By this time, the group had established themselves in the local bar scene playing in small shows and independent productions held in numerous bars across the metro- Freedom Bar, Mayrics (now known as Sazi’s), and the now defunct Millenia Café to name a few.

In 2004, another addition to the lineup was made. Marvin Estrada took the role of lead vocals for Ground Alpha. Frontman of the funk band  The Bastards (where Dale Moro also played basss), Marvin has shared work with all 3 original members of the band on several projects in the past and present, and it was only a matter of time until the collaborative work became a permanent gig.

Ground Alpha continues to play in events and shows inside and outside of Metro Manila promoting their own brand of music. They are currently co-producing a series of events called Caught In A Bar Tour.
