Gregory V. Wilson

Gregory V. Wilson (b. January 25, 1963) holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh, and has worked on high-performance scientific computing, data visualization, and computer security. His books include Practical Parallel Programming (MIT Press, 1995), Parallel Programming Using C++ (co-edited with Paul Lu, MIT Press, 1996), Three Sensible Adventures (a children's book published by Annick Press, 1999), and Data Crunching (Pragmatic Bookshelf, 2005), and Beautiful Code (O'Reilly Media, 2007). Greg was the driving force behind the original Software Carpentry project, and later the creator of the open source course of the same name. He is now a Professor in Computer Science at the University of Toronto, a contributing editor with Dr. Dobb's Journal, and a member of the editorial board of Computing in Science and Engineering.
