Greenwich Campus

The Greenwich Campus, of the University of Greenwich, is on a World Heritage Site, base in the Old Royal Naval College on the banks of the River Thames. Making use of three baroque buildings designed by Sir Christopher Wren at the end of the 17th century, the campus offers a breath-taking learning environment which is good fun to explore. The campus has no end of little nuances to discover and the Painted Hall and Chapel are exhilerating, awe-inspiring creations within.
The library is based in the Dreadnought building with a large extensive collection of books and journals, as well as language laboratories, a 200-PC computing facility and a bookshop.
The Stephen Lawrence Gallery, which provides a showcase for the work of contemporary artists, can also be found on campus. A few minutes’ walk from the campus is a handsome 1930s building, designed by distinguished architect Sir Edwin Cooper, which is home to the Students’ Union. Bar Latitude has bright, modern decor and offers a range of hot and cold food.
London will host the 2012 Olympics – and the University of Greenwich is already off the blocks. It contributed to the development of the successful bid and offered accommodation for Games organisers. Staff and students will be invited to act as volunteers. Nearby Greenwich Park, the proposed site of the equestrian and modern pentathlon events, will be accessed through the Maritime Greenwich Campus, and university buildings will be used for games administration.

How to get to Greenwich Campus by road
From the M25 take the A2 (Junction 2) towards London. The distance is approximately 15 miles. When you reach a set of traffic lights, continue on to the next exit, signposted London A2. (The main road continues on to Blackwall Tunnel as the A102.) At the roundabout (locally known as the Sun in Sands), turn left. Continue on to the next roundabout on Blackheath and turn right. Cross the traffic lights and go down Maze Hill - Greenwich Park is on your left - to the traffic lights. Turn left and the campus is on the right. There is no public parking on campus. Public car parks are available but driving is probably not the best option.

How to get to Greenwich Campus by rail
Charing Cross, Cannon Street, Waterloo East and London Bridge all offer direct services to Greenwich Station on the Dartford/Gravesend via Greenwich and Woolwich line. If you are travelling from Kent, alight at Maze Hill.

How to get to Greenwich Campus by London Underground
The nearest tube station is North Greenwich; then take a 188 bus to the campus. A better option is to use the DLR. Take the Jubilee Line to Canary Wharf and change to the DLR. Take a Lewisham-bound train to Cutty Sark Station.

How to get to Greenwich Campus by Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
Cutty Sark Station is just 211 paces from the campus. Direct services run from Bank, Canary Wharf and Lewisham and easy connections are available from Tower Gateway, Beckton and Stratford.

    199: From Canada Water, Surrey Quays and Deptford to Lewisham and Catford
    286: From Greenwich to Westcombe Park, Blackheath Royal Standard, Kidbrooke, Eltham, Avery Hill, Sidcup and Queen Mary's Hospital
    386: From Greenwich to Westcombe Park, Blackheath Royal Standard, Kidbrooke, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Plumstead Road and Woolwich
    N1: Night bus from Tottenham Court Road Station, Holborn, Waterloo, Elephant and Castle and Surrey Quays to Charlton, Woolwich, Plumstead, Abbey Wood and Thamesmead

The following bus routes pass Island Gardens, which is the closest point to the campus north of the river. A foot tunnel connects to the campus.

    D7: From Mile End and Canary Wharf to Cubitt Town and Poplar 

 

How to get to Greenwich Campus by Riverboat
A regular service is available from Savoy Pier, Blackfriars, Bankside, London Bridge City, St Katherine's, Canary Wharf, Greenland and Masthouse Terrace to Greenwich Pier, which is adjacent to the campus. The journey takes 35 minutes and is probably the fastest way to travel from central London.
