Greencarsnow.com

Green Cars Now was created in 2005 and is one of the earliest websites advocating ‘green vehicles’, a relatively new term at the time. At this time there were dramatic gas price increases and a hostile political opposition to reducing fuel consumption. This website countered pravailing views with a mandate to promote fuel efficient vehicles and alternative fuels in order to create a cleaner environment and oil independence.

Advocacy

Green Cars Now distinguishes itself from other green vehicle websites by advocating a broad approach to achieving their mandate through many green vehicle components rather than focusing on just one. Most environmentalist and politicians are in agreement that an improved environment and oil independence will only be achieved through the adoption of many smaller solutions.

This websites broad approach encompasses the hybrid car, flex fuel vehicles, plug in hybrids, political incentives, better driving habits and alternative fuels (E85, Hydrogen, Biodiesel).

Operation

Green Cars Now attempts to promote green vehicles and alternative fuels through articles, news, EPA ratings (database of vehicles from 2005) and a discussion forum (over 500 members).

Future

Green Cars Now remains focused on green vehicle advocacy. This is in contrast to many newer green vehicle sites spurred on by Toyota and Honda’s green vehicle sales success in 2007, which are commercial in nature.
