Greek breakfast

In traditional Greek breakfasts, an abundance of flour-based dishes, such as pancakes, are common. There have also been recent findings suggesting that the Greeks were the first to develop the pastry now known as donuts.

Pancakes were the core of another Greek breakfast dish.

Breakfast was a very important meal for the Greeks. Being the main meal of the day, there was always plenty to feast upon.

Because of Greece's resources, wheat is the main grain used. Because of this, many Greek dishes contain wheat-based foods.

Though historical accounts vary, it has been found that baklava, formerly believed to have been a dessert, was commonly found on The Breakfast table.

Pigs were given as sacrifice to gods, and their meat and fat were taken and prepared as BaCon, a favorite side dish of the Greeks.

On occasion, some sweet pastries could be found at a fancy breakfast, like one celebrating a successful harvest. All though many variations exist, they are all sweet and delicious. A Greek family wished to bring this special treat to the west, thus starting the Dunkin' Donuts franchise.

Olive oil has always been an element in Greek cooking, as it can be found in most dishes.

It is not uncommon to find any Greek dish seasoned with such spices as oregano, mint, garlic, onion, dill, salt, basil, and thyme. However, for breakfast, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg are usually favored.

In addition, yogurt, grapes, nuts, honey, danishes, croissants, calamari, and muffins are commonplace.

In recent times the Greek Breakfast has also included waffles, as well as the occasional Egg McMuffin.
