Grandmaster li liqun
Grandmaster Li Li-Qun (1925-present) began his martial arts training at 8 years of age under the influence of his father. He first started training in Shaolin Kung Fu then XingYiQuan(Hsing-I Chuan), Hua Dong Quan and various forms of Taijiquan(Sun tai ji, Wu tai ji and Yang tai ji styles) as well as QiGong (Chi Kung).
He eventually went on to focus particularly on Wu Style tai chi and became a senior disciple of the renowned Master Ma Yueh-liang (1901-1998), he is a 4th generation Wu Style Tai Ji chuan master. He was the deputy vice secretary of the Jianquan Association (Chien Chaun association) in shanghai under masters Ma and his wife Wu Ying-hua. He was grandmaster Ma's disciple for over 30 years, and took over many of grandmaster Ma's official positions. Grandmaster li organised many event at the Xiu JIa Hui Ti Yu Guan international stadium in shanghai. He organized events for Grandmaster Ma, Wu Ying Hua and the Jianquan Association (Chien Chaun association). This included Grandmaster Ma's last public demonstration in shanghai. Grandmaster Li is now one of the worlds leading experts of Wu Style.
During his lifetime, Grandmaster Li was surrounded by many of china’s finest teachers. He is a one of the few surviving teachers form this era. Some of his peers included, Fu Zhongwen, Sun Jianyu amongst many others. Grandmaster Li was also in charge of the Shanghai Shuai jiao(Chinese wrestling) team for some years.
Grandmaster Li is also a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specializing in Qi Gong therapy. Grandmaster Li has been an adviser to the the qi gong departments of Shanghai’s universities. He was also the Managing Director of the Shanghai Society of Qi Gong for Rehabilitation. His subtle techniques are glance into the softer more energetic side of qi gong tui na therapy. Grandmaster li emphasized the use of the mind and the breath to coordinate the body’s energy for both self-cultivation and for therapy.
During his 50 years of practicing Qi Gong he has established and been involved in many Qi Gong clinics and Tai Ji and Qi Gong organizations in China and overseas. From 1971 until 1996, grandmaster Li was the executive director of the Shanghai Qigong Rehabilitation Centre.
Grandmaster Li’s gentle and warm teaching style has led him to be invited to teach tai ji and qigong all over the globe. Some of countries where master li has taught include; United kingdom, Australia, U.S.A, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan and has been many private students in these countries. This achievement has been recognized, he has been rewarded by the Chinese government for spreading Chinese culture. Grandmaster Li has students in many countries, for example; Michael W.Acton of the UK Wu Shi Tai Ji And Qigong Association, Professor Jonathan Shear in the USA, and Grandmaster Li's son Li Shen-Guang in Australia.
In 1981, with the help of his son, Master Li Shen-Guang he founded China's "Step Back" Qi Gong, one of the 21 Qi Gong systems officially recognized by the Chinese government. In china the ‘step back’ system has been shown to have very promising results with a variety conditions (blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis etc). Regular practice has been shown to improve the wellbeing of many people. Indeed the step back system has also been noted for its work in oncology. This system has been taught to cancer patients to aid their recovery.

Dr.Li has been a prolific author on tai ji and qi gong. Most of these books are available in Chinese only, however in the future translations will hopefully be available. Over 150 articles have been written about Grandmaster Li in more than 50 newspapers and magazines around the world.

Grandmaster Li was the first chairman of the Shanghai Qi Gong Master’s Association and Managing Director of the Shanghai Society of Qi Gong for Rehabilitation. He is the Deputy Executive Secretary of the annual Yong Nian International Tai Ji Conference as the Wu Style representative, Honorary President of The Australian College of Tai Chi & Qi Gong, Honorary president of the U.K Wu Shi Tai Ji And Qigong Association, honorary president of the Westminster university tai ji and qigong society, Honorary Advisor to the Shanghai University Qi Gong Centre, Honorary Chairman of the USA Wu Style Tai Ji Association, chairman of the China's Step Back Qi Gong Association. He was also the Wu style representative to the Chen village, Chenjiagoa.
