GNU Panama
The Panama gnu project was initiated by students from the Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá with the goal of creating a community where all members could participate in discussions on various topics, and conducting research projects and free software development under the guidance and support the community.
Background
Gnu Panama is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to promote and defend the use and development of free software, and the right of individuals to use, study, copy, modify and redistribute software.
The community is independent of the other communities of free software as the community of ubuntu, the fsl Panama and other similar communities, but nevertheless are actively involved in the events and campaigns to organize these communities. Instead of being in a hierarchical structure, as sister organizations operating in a network.
Organization
The community gnu Panama was founded in early 2008, in the city of David in Chiriqui, Panama, under the leadership of its technical team.

Mission
- Create an independent entity based on the support and exchange of ideas and principles of the philosophy of the gnu, to facilitate research and development of free software.
Vision
- Integrate all organizations of free software into a single entity that would promote free software in a practical and effective.
Objectives
- Promote the development and use of free software in all areas of computing.
- To have representation in all educational institutions of higher level, in order to give assistance and appeal to researchers and developers of free software.
Activities of gnu Panama
One of the main functions of the gnu community of Panama is to create the appropriate infrastructure to cover legal, economic and logistics to the GNU Project locally.
- Training legal rights.
- The community organizes seminars on legal issues to keep in mind when using the license of GNU.
- Organizing lectures and workshops on the gnu at various universities, colleges and local schools.
- Implementation of systems.
- Implementing access control systems to wireless networks, using the tool as a free wifidog among others.
- Implementing and configuring GNU / Linux system in a portable device that is easy to operate and allow a transition from a Windows user to Linux environment.
- Incorporation of e-learning systems and e-working, that help educational institutions in their teaching process, thus allowing for another form of learning.
- Campaigns
- The community promotes numerous campaigns in defense and promotion of Free Software.
- Promotion and publication of the philosophy of free software in educational institutions such as schools and universities.
Funding
Gnu Panama to be a community nonprofit, conducts a variety of educational activities for raising the funds needed to cover operating expenses and equipment it needs for its management, in addition to those activities funded by the founding members and group generic which is the legal representative of the community.
