Global Gene Corp

Global Gene Corp (also known as GGC) is a provider of genetic testing services that are predictive and preventive and provide actionable information to physicians before The Symptoms of a disease become manifest.

GGC has developed a genetic testing technology - IndiaCHIP to lead the transformation of healthcare, focusing on maintaining wellness rather than treating a disease in a reactive fashion. The testing method is unique compared with the typical tests being offered in India that are based on Caucasian populations. The company is looking at collaborating with hospital chains in India to provide access to its unique method of genetic testing using Indian genome. It wants to establish its presence in all metros and most Tier I cities in India.

History

The company was founded by Dr. Jonathan Picker and Dr. Saumya Jamuar. Sumit Jamuar is the Executive Chairman of Global Gene Corp. Jonathan Picker is an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and a Consultant at Boston Children's Hospital and Saumya Jamuar is a visiting scientist at Harvard Medical School. The leadership comprises people with specialized expertise in genetics and a unified purpose – applying powerful genetic testing technology platform to the transformation of preventive healthcare.

IndiaCHIP

Global Gene Corp uses IndiaCHIP, its proprietary and a technology which has been developed to identify genetic mutations that cause disease and disorders specifically in Indians. The analysis is carried out using a Illumina system and SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) technology.

SNP Technology

SNP technology provides very high sensitivity targeted testing for specific genetic changes such as individual mutations within a particular gene. SNP testing looks at a ‘single’ nucleotide resolution while other technologies like Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) look at 100 kilo base pair resolution and Karyotype looks at 5 million base pair resolution. This level of granularity makes SNP testing more accurate. The tests assay only for known mutations within genes leaving out variants of unknown significance which is often a cause of undue anxiety and stress.
