Gian Franco Rosales

Gian Franco Rosales (born 2 October 1986) is an Argentine LGBTQ rights activist.

Rosales is a member of the National and Popular Project within the Eva Perón Group of Avellaneda. He coordinated the Trans Men's area of the (ATTTA) from 11 November 2011 to 1 January 2018, when he became Vice President. His mentor was Claudia Pía Baudracco, ambassador for the Gender Identity Law.

Early life

Rosales was born on 2 October 1986 in Avellaneda, Argentina. He comes from an Evangelical family, which made his transition as a trans man complicated during his adolescence.

After a period outside his hometown, he enrolled at the National University of Avellaneda.

Career

In 2011, Rosales began the legal process to obtain his national identity document (DNI) reflecting his gender identity through the (FALGBT), where he met a group of trans men with whom he began working more actively. In November 2011, he marched for the first time with his peers alongside the ATTTA, marking the beginning of his active involvement in the movement. He was a co-founder of the trans men's section within ATTTA.

He participated in the various debates prior to the enactment of the Gender Identity Law No. 26,743, and obtained his corrected birth certificate and ID card on 4 June 2012, the day the law came into effect, accompanied by authorities from the , where he studied Computer Engineering.

At some point, he worked as a Diversity Coordinator for the Secretariat of Social Policy and Human Development of the Municipality of Avellaneda, performing tasks such as: training and awareness raising within the municipal sphere and in institutions and/or civil society organizations.

On 18 March 2016, he was appointed Director of Diversity of Avellaneda through a decree issued by Mayor Jorge Ferraresi, which also created the department, thus becoming the first transgender man to hold such a position in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Directorate of Diversity operates under the auspices of the municipality's Social Observatory of Public Policies, whose president is Magdalena Sierra, a National Deputy for the Province of Buenos Aires.

Personal life

Rosales is a trans man, and has been pregnant twice. He is married to Nadiha, a trans woman, whom he met in 2011. They got married in 2016.
