Germain Uwahiriwe
Germain Zima Uwahiriwe (born May 17, 1982) is a Rwandan born journalist living in Toronto, Canada.
Early life and education
Born in Remera, east of Kigali, Uwahiriwe is the second of 5 children. His parents Juliette (born Kamunazi) and Deo Zima were public servants. His family moved frequently with his parents’ new assignments, which sparked his keenness to learn more about the world and different ways of life. Uwahiriwe once acknowledged: “During the 1994 period I used to read about other countries in the Petit Larousse French dictionary, 1993 version, wondering why it had to be just us”(referring to the 1994 war and [...]). Uwahiriwe went to different schools including Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare for his high school studies and National University of Rwanda for his post secondary studies where he earned a degree in Journalism.
Career
Germain Uwahiriwe started his career in broadcast media in 2005 as a volunteer at a newly created radio (Radio Salus). A radio created to both help journalism students gain practical skills and build confidence regarding private radio, once used as a key tool in the Rwandan [...]. With his longtime friend Richard Kwizera who later branched out in TV, they created and hosted different shows including Hambere about world history and Sunday Relax, an entertainment show. These shows steadily gained popularity and critical acclaim among the Rwandan public.
