Concept
In a recent VTM interview and in the booklet for the cd, 520 explained the album:
“When I was in the middle of putting together Never Doubt Me, Facing Myself, 1 of a Million, and V-Town: The Soundtrack, N and I got the idea to start a group and we got the name Kwest from our cousin. So we put the group together (N and I) and got to work on the LP but most of the material never made the album because we felt it wasn’t good enough. We only put the tracks that meant something to us on it and a lot of the tracks are really dark. Also when I put the tracks into their order I had Jay-Z’s American Gangster in my mind and I liked the idea that he put each song in order like a story so I put ours together like a show. It starts out with Genesis, or the intro, the track directly in the middle is Epiphany, or the intermission, and the final track is Curtains Down, or the Outro.”
Why the Album is so Dark
In the same VTM interview 520 said:
"In the middle of making this album two of my friends died and my great-aunt also died so a lot of the songs kind of reflected that. I mean the Virginia Tech shooting happened, the Jena Six was happening, there was just a bunch of negativity happening."
Death of Ivan Ortiz
As said above "...two of my friends died..." and Ivan ortiz was said to have had the biggest affect on Genesis of a Nemesis.
"Ivan was killed one night... he had his face shot off..."
520 released in an interview that more then half of his song on Genesis of a Nemesis are because of Ivan's death.
Following Albums
520's Next Album
520 released a statement on December 1st that afer he was done with Never Doubt Me and Genesis of a Nemesis he would get rid of outside producers and other artists and do his next album entirely by himself; the beats, the videos, the lyrics, and putting it out. He also released the name of the album: Facing Myself
===N-99's Next Album=== After releasing 1 of a Million, N-99 wasn't going to release another LP but once 520 convinced him to get back in he got to work on his next solo, 2 Long 2 Wait
===Lil' Rekless' Next Album=== Since before the thought of Genesis of a Nemesis, 520 was busy at work with rookie Lil' Rekless. Once finding out about the album, he quickly jumped into but before he released a statement saying that his solo debut would be Back For The First Time. Later it was pushed back until after Genesis of a Nemesis.
===DJ Remikz's Next Album===
The rapper turned DJ never thought to release an album, he just wanted to have fun. But once he released his first mixtape-like CD (Turnin' Tables Volume 1) he was quickly addicted to having CDs out. He then became part of Kwest and then got to work on Turnin' Tables Volume 2
===Kwest's Next Album=== 520 and N-99 knew that they were going to stick to the theme of a Greek-type name (Nemesis being the Greek god of divine retribution). They said that their next cd together will be Chaos, Erebos, Nyx (Chaos was said to be the nothingness at the beginning of the world, Erebos is the Darkness of the Underworld, and Nyx is the night).
