GEM Equipments Private Limited is an Indian industrial equipment manufacturer headquartered in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Established in 1984, the company has over four decades of experience in the design, engineering, and fabrication of compressed air treatment systems and industrial cooling equipment. It is an ISO 9001:2015 certified organisation and serves customers across India and several Asian countries including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

History

GEM Equipments was founded in 1984 by Mr. K.P. Manoharan, Mr. G. Ravichandran, and Mr. C. Raviselvan. Operating from its registered facility at Arasur on the Avinashi Road corridor in Coimbatore — a city known as a hub of precision engineering — the company gradually expanded its product portfolio and market reach over the following decades.

According to a cover story published in Engineering Review (November 2016), within three decades GEM established itself as the largest manufacturer of compressed air dryers in India, producing over 6,000 dryers annually. The company has over 10,000 cooling tower installations across India.

The company has built an in-house manufacturing capability covering all major products, accessories, and vital components, with a workforce of over 200 employees across a 5-acre manufacturing facility. It established a research and development function whose close coordination with user industries has helped GEM develop and continuously improve products suited to the requirements of Indian and Asian industrial customers. In 2024 the company marked 40 years of manufacturing operations.

GEM maintains warehouses and regional offices in Mumbai (Maharashtra), Hyderabad (Telangana), and Delhi, enabling nationwide customer support.

Products

GEM Equipments manufactures three primary product categories: compressed air dryers, cooling towers, and compressed air treatment accessories. All products are designed and fabricated at its Coimbatore facility.

Compressed Air Dryers

A compressed air dryer is a device that removes moisture from compressed air, reducing the dew point and preventing condensation, corrosion, and contamination in downstream equipment and processes. GEM offers an extensive range of refrigerated and desiccant air dryers across eleven model series, covering capacities suitable for small workshops to large industrial plants.

Refrigerated dryers cool the incoming compressed air to condense water vapour, drain the liquid, and then reheat the dried air before delivery. GEM produces the following refrigerated dryer series: 3GW Wall Mounting Air Dryer, 2KDG All Aluminium Air Dryer, 2KD Copper Coil Air Dryer, 2KD7 High Pressure Air Dryer, 3GX General Purpose Air Dryer, 3GD Logic Controller Air Dryer, 3GE Energy Saving Digital Air Dryer, 3GZ Dual Frequency Air Dryer, and 3GR Rotary Compressor Air Dryer (VFD).

Desiccant dryers use hygroscopic materials such as silica gel or activated alumina to adsorb moisture from compressed air, capable of achieving very low pressure dew points (typically −40 °C or lower), preferred in critical applications such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, and instrumentation. GEM produces the SPD Series Heatless Desiccant Air Dryer and standard Heatless Desiccant Air Dryer.

Cooling Towers

GEM manufactures a comprehensive range of industrial cooling towers. Products span four main configurations — bottle type (round), square/rectangular type, crossflow, and dry cooling towers.

GEM was the first Indian cooling tower company to replace aluminium alloy sprinklers with nylon 66, the first Indian company to develop combo cooling systems to conserve industrial water, and the first South Indian company to develop modular cell FRP cooling towers for higher flow applications as an alternative to RCC towers.

Bottle type cooling towers have a cylindrical form factor with an induced-draft fan at the top. GEM produces four variants: GCT Standard, GCT-H Series, GCT Quiet Series, and GCT-HH Series. Square type cooling towers use a rectangular induced-draft counterflow design with four variants: SCT Standard, SCT-H Series, SCT Quiet Series, and SCT-HH Series. Dry cooling towers operate on an air-cooled closed-circuit principle with no evaporative water loss, available as DCT Dry Cooling Tower and Adiabatic Cooling Tower.

Compressed Air Treatment Accessories

GEM supplies a range of accessories including moisture separators, compressed air filters, compressed air receivers, automatic drain valves, water-cooled coolers, and air-cooled coolers, used to build complete compressed air treatment trains in accordance with ISO 8573 compressed air quality standards.

Industries Served

GEM Equipments' products find application across a broad range of industrial sectors including automobile and engineering, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, plastics and rubber, textiles, power plants, chemical and fertiliser, glass manufacturing, air conditioning and HVAC, and aerospace.

Notable customers include L&T, Tata Steel, Bhilai Steel, Saint Gobain, Renault Nissan, Maruti Suzuki, ELGI Equipments, Atlas Copco, Chicago Pneumatics, and PSG Group, among others.

Manufacturing

All products are designed and manufactured at the company's facility at S.F. No. 103, Avinashi Road, Arasur, Coimbatore, across a 5-acre site with a workforce of over 200 employees. The manufacturing system is equipped with contemporary machinery and tooling, incorporating Japanese manufacturing methodology for product quality. A dedicated quality control team conducts stringent inspections at every stage of production.

Research and Development

GEM operates an R&D function supported by a testing laboratory. The company holds ISO 9001:2015 certification and is a member of the Cooling Technology Institute (CTI). Continuous feedback from user industries is incorporated into product development cycles.

Sales and Service Network

The company operates a network of warehouses and authorised dealers across India to provide pre-sales technical advice, commissioning support, annual maintenance contracts (AMC), and spare parts supply. Warehouse and regional offices are located in Mumbai (Maharashtra), Hyderabad (Telangana), and Delhi.

Spare parts are available through the company's dedicated online spares portal (gemspares.in). GEM also provides online service tutorials, installation checklists, pre-commissioning guidance, and a warranty claims facility through its website.

Export Markets

GEM exports to several Asian markets, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh identified as primary international markets. The company has also executed export orders including a dry cooling system to Jordan (through ISGEC) and a dry cooling system for Suzuki's Gujarat plant.
