Gaytri D. Kachroo

Dr. Gaytri D. Kachroo is a scholar, attorney, entrepreneur, and author. She is the Founder and President of the Project for World Peace (the ‘PWP’).

Early life and education

Born in Srinagar, Kashmir, she emigrated with her family to Montreal, Quebec, Canada at almost nine years of age speaking neither English nor French.

Kachroo received her Bachelor’s at Wellesley College majoring in Fine Arts, Political Science, and English Literature.

Later she attended McGill Law School and Harvard Law School which added to her civil and common law degrees from the University of Ottawa. Her studies focused on human rights, comparative conceptions of law, and understanding dynamic systems of order within legal institutions.

Work

Overview

She is the founder and managing principal of Kachroo Legal Services, P.C. (“KLS”) a Boston area law firm that serves U.S. and international clients.

Dr. Kachroo has represented the Madoff Whistleblower, Harry Markopolos, and his team, before the House Financial Services Committee, and the Senate Banking Committee and before the SEC.

She has also proposed a bill to establish a new International Finance Court to curb the persistence of jurisdictional arbitrage in financial fraud worldwide through the House of Commons in the U.S. congress. She has also made this proposal before the World Legal Forum at the Hague, Netherlands.

In addition to legal services, she has operated businesses in the energy and pharmaceutical sectors, creating turn-key solutions and teams using traditional corporate models.

Dr. Kachroo is the founder of Kachroo Legal Services, P.C. (“KLS”), a law firm representing individuals and large groups of domestic and international investors in strategic recovery and in whistleblower claims before the SEC, IRS, and under the Federal Tort Claims Act.

Along with other KLS Attorneys, she has represented a class of defrauded investors globally overcoming sovereign immunity under the FTCA and a motion to dismiss the case brought by the US Government and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. She represented the Class of Investors defrauded by the Allen Stanford Ponzi scheme. She also joined the Madoff Global Alliance as its Vice Chair - a group of 5000 attorneys worldwide representing the defrauded investors in the Bernie Madoff case.

Project for World Peace

Gaytri D. Kachroo, is the Founder and President of the Project for World Peace (‘PWP’) – a ‘DO’ Tank and social enterprise promoting peace and prosperity initiatives through a variety of advanced and sustainable technologies to address steep economic disparities worldwide and intractable world conflicts.  The PWP and its affiliate funding structure, seek to create a wholly novel network of organizational collaborations and purpose-based projects for international development and futurist sustainable technology including agritech, aquatech, biotech, energytech, identity-creation, security, AI, nanotech, microfinance, and transformational digital technologies for humanity.  Through PWP work on the future of human governance, Dr. Kachroo seeks to implement the theory of ‘integration’ propounded in her new monograph in process.

Financial services

Kachroo formed a corporate structure for and assisted the Whistleblower Team of Harry Markopolos, and assembled a record of its investigation and disclosure of the record of complaints made to the SEC regarding the Madoff Ponzi Scheme. She represented Harry Markopolos before the Senate Banking Committee (Sept. 10, 2009); and the House Financial Services Committee as co-counsel (Feb. 4, 2009). Kachroo represented the entire team, Frank Casey, Michael Ocrant, Neil Chelo, and Harry Markopolos before the SEC IG’s Office in its investigation of errors made by the SEC in their investigation of Madoff.

International legislative and political initiatives'

Dr. Kachroo helped formulate the proposal for a new International Finance Court before the Hague World Legal Forum. Her work assisted with the introduction of a House bill for a new International Finance Court and discussions between the EU and Chairman Kanjorski of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee on an arbitral forum for international financial fraud claims.

She advocated for and provided input to the Senate Banking Committee on changes in legislation affecting the financial services sector including whistleblower provisions embodied in the U.S. Dodd-Frank Act.

Dr. Kachroo lead initiatives of multiple NGOs in Canada relating to Human Rights before the Canadian Parliament, and advocated at the United Nations and on global platforms for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality.

Health care, energy and technology

Kachroo acted as global CEO and Chairman, of RAPID Pharmaceuticals (now in Liquidation), a Swiss company with multiple subsidiaries involved in the clinical development of peptide therapeutics for various orphan and chronic neurodegenerative illnesses.

Kachroo was also member or head of the India Practice Group and International Practice Group at various Boston Law Firms.

Professional associations

Global Alliance of Madoff Lawyers (Feb. 2009-2012) – As Vice- Chair of The Madoff Global Alliance, which comprises more than 50 law firms and 5000 lawyers from approximately 28 countries, Gaytri Kachroo created the Alliance’s initiative of a new International Finance Court, along with other possible substantive proposals for regulation of financial services sector. She coordinated the effort with Alliance members as well as with UNCITRAL, members of the U.S. Congress and other U.S. governmental agencies and experts in the financial services sector.

World Boston (2008 – Present) - Gaytri Kachroo serves as Chairman and Board member. World Boston brings international visitors, professionals in all industry sectors, and governmental delegates to Boston to educate and expand Boston business, education and the professional community. World Boston is a member of the World Affairs Council.

Boston Bar Association (2005-2009) - International Law Section – She acted as co-chair of the international law section of the Boston Bar Association for a number of years, supervising and innovating and chairing a number of events in the Boston area for lawyers and the public.
